The Foundations for Success Stories

Just as every house needs a foundation, we lay the groundwork for further success stories. The workshops are a vital part of this strategy. They are inspiring and life-changing!

Success stories, such as those of Martha and Misheck, who have excelled academically, or those of Naomy and Ruth, for whom FCTrelief’s support enabled them to make the transition into working life – all these success stories are built on a foundation. And we lay these foundations through our daily lessons and during the workshops.

During the week, the focus is on the pupils’ academic development. In small classes at the Plot, our teaching is much more personalised than in the large classes at the schools in Linda. This enables our teachers to respond to the children’s needs and support them individually. This lays the foundation for academic growth and improves their chances of securing a vocational training place or a place at university.

Workshops and Partnership with Parents

Another key element underpinning these success stories is the workshops. The focus during the workshops is on inspiration and shaping future prospects. Interesting and thought-provoking input broadens the young people’s horizons. We encourage them to develop a positive vision for the future and to draw up a plan with specific goals.

For the first time, we have invited the parents (or guardians/carers) to a joint meeting. Although we know the parents and maintain occasional personal contact with them (usually when something goes wrong), it is important to us that we can work more closely with them for the well-being of their children. This also enables them to offer each other advice and support.

As the staff, we had varying expectations, but in the end we were all pleasantly surprised by how many people attended and how positively the meeting went! Not only did the parents express their great appreciation for the work carried out by FCTrelief, but there was also a constructive exchange between staff and parents. We were able to pass on feedback, listen to parents’ concerns and answer questions. This partnership with parents is also part of our strategy to create more success stories.
