Celebrating Success: Martha Kunda

FCTrelief has another success to celebrate! Martha Kunda from the George Compound (near Lusaka) has successfully completed her studies at Evelyn Hone College. Patrick Sinkala attended the graduation ceremony.

Martha from George Compound

Martha comes from a modest background. She grew up in George Compound. Her single mother didn't have it easy , but she is proud of what her daughter has achieved. She was also present at the graduation ceremony (see photo below). Martha has siblings; her brother Jordan is currently doing a vocational apprenticeship at the Chikupi Training Institute. For them education is the key to a better future.

Martha’s academic career was made possible thanks to the support of FCTrelief. We were able to help Martha with her schooling from as early as Grade 8. She completed Grades 8 and 9 at Lilanda Primary School, and Grades 10 to 12 at Chunga High School. This laid the foundations for her to secure a place at college.

Martha studied at Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka from 2022 to 2024. She has now successfully completed her Diploma in ‘Secretarial and Office Management’ and is over the moon! For her, it is a milestone and a step towards a better future.

Martha has a passion for learning and a drive to succeed. She used the time leading up to her graduation to gain practical experience. She completed her internship at the Chipata Trades Training Institute. Martha is currently looking for a full-time job. However, this is not so easy in Zambia. It takes patience and perseverance.

Celebrating Success

We are delighted by Martha’s success! Her mother is overjoyed and very proud of her daughter. When you consider their circumstances, you can better understand just how much this means to people like them. Patrick Sinkala, who supports, encourages and recommends young people like Martha and Jordan, is also proud of Martha. Memory Banda, who studied with Martha (photo above), also attended the graduation ceremony. She shared in her friend’s joy (see photo below).

Martha is grateful for this opportunity in life, which she has made the most of. She is grateful to FCTrelief for recognising and nurturing her potential. At the same time, she is also a role model for other young people who want to make something of their lives but sometimes doubt whether they can succeed. This is understandable, but success stories like Martha’s – or those of Mischeck and Naomy, or Gift and Memory – encourage others to do their best and strive towards a better future through education.
