Misheck is writing a Success Story

Three years ago, at the age of 19, Misheck set off for India to study computer technology (Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering). It was a big step for a young man from the Linda Compound. Three years later, he is well on course and his final and most important year of study is about to begin. Misheck is writing a success story! Gordon Merk reports.

Misheck's Success Story

Three years ago, we reported that Misheck's next station would be India. He is our first international student and he is a success story! In Grade 9 he was the best student in Zambia; in Grade 12 he was one of the best in the country; and then the opportunity to study in India opened up. Misheck did not disappoint. He is successful and the fourth and most important year of study is ahead of him. This last semester has been very challenging, he told us, but Misheck has done well in his exams.

Misheck is currently in Zambia visiting his family and relatives. When he travelled to India in 2022, his little sister was born. Today she is already three years old. And then a little brother followed. He missed his family and they missed him. So it was a great pleasure to be back in his home country. A lot has changed. He can also recharge his batteries a little until he flies back and tackles his final year.

Misheck is a role model and an inspiration for our pupils. He was able to tell them about his ‘adventure’ in India. This gives them hope that, despite difficult circumstances and humble beginnings, something great can come of their lives. Misheck considers it a great privilege to be the first person from Linda to be able to study abroad. Truly a milestone. When he spoke at the youth meeting last Saturday, he realised for himself how inspiring his career is. This experience was ‘heart-warming’ for him, as if he sees his younger self in the young people.

Misheck's Experience and Gratitude

Misheck is very grateful to FCTrelief for all the support he has received. He says he wouldn't be half the person he is today if we hadn't supported him. He is especially grateful to his personal sponsor. As FCTrelief, we see such an investment as highly worthwhile! Here is an overview of our students.

Moving to a foreign country was not easy for Misheck: a new language, a new culture and a new way of life were challenging, but a good life experience. The heat in India gives him a hard time - and this as an African! Sometimes you forget that there are even hotter regions in the world than African regions.

Without familiar faces and as the only student from Zambia, it was sometimes lonely, but he made new friends and has good relationships at university. For most of his classmates, Misheck is the first African they have met. It is therefore also important to him to represent his continent well and give a positive image. The Indians are very welcoming, as well as curious to get to know people from other cultures. They are interested in how other people live, which god or gods they worship and what their values are.

With Passion and Vision Ahead

Misheck also learnt that learning is an ongoing, continuous process. He has a passion for it. He therefore wants to start his Master's degree straight away and continue learning to create a better future for himself. He is researching study opportunities in England and America. Such an opportunity would also broaden his horizons as a person.

Misheck wants to specialise in cyber security. In India, he saw how the banking industry switched to mobile banking and what the revolutionary effect this had on the population. It is part of his vision to implement this in Zambia, as the digital world is poorly protected. He also has other projects that he wants to realise. Misheck is a young man with passion and vision. When you see where he comes from, where he grew up and what his background was, you can only marvel: it's a true success story!
