Once again, we can report on successful workshops – they’re life-changing! The pupils are inspired, the staff are enthusiastic, and the atmosphere is brilliant. Racheal is excelling in her role as head teacher. Together with her husband Danny, they are great team leaders. Gordon Merk reports.

The workshops are proving their worth

For several years now, we have been running two-week workshops at the end of the term. This allows us to fill two of the four weeks of the school holidays. The children are looked after, fed, and can flourish in a safe environment. They are allowed to be children. The workshops include a wide range of activities, including talks by teachers, presentations by pupils, sports and aerobics, as well as karaoke and talent shows, poetry, debates and the regular ‘Career Day’, which serves as a source of inspiration for education and careers. Once again, our positive experiences have been confirmed: the workshops are proving their worth! Diversity, variety and activities enthuse and inspire, particularly with a view to the future.

Inspiration for the Future

One of the highlights of these recent workshops was the focus on inspiration for the future, with a particular emphasis on education and vocational training. It is important to start thinking about the future at a young age and to develop a positive vision for life. Gordon and Elvira inspired the young people with three online sessions. The ‘Career Day’ sessions were delivered in a creative way. For example, the pupils dressed up as nurses – which was great fun (see photo above). This is how they imagine working in the care sector. Drawing on her own experience, Priscilla made a powerful personal contribution to the mission of fostering inspiration for the future.

The Staff dressed up as «Pupils»

What really delighted the pupils was the staff’s ‘special performance’. They swapped roles: the staff dressed up as pupils and pretended to be at school. The theme was ‘Back to School’. Everyone had a great time. The staff sat at the school desks. Some of the pupils (like David in the photo) played the part of the teachers.

We emphasise the importance of a good school education and subsequent vocational training. We are currently supporting 15 university students, five who are training in the care sector and four in practical vocational training. We are building ‘future through education’. The ‘Career Day’ offers an insight into the future prospects of well-educated young people.

Zambian Guest from South Africa

Drusilla is originally from Zambia, but has been living in South Africa for years. Her children were born and raised there. She has relatives in Zambia. During her visit to Lusaka, she accepted our invitation to visit the plot and see what we are doing for Zambia. Drusilla was deeply impressed by what has been achieved in her home country through FCTrelief and by everything we are doing for these young people.

My experience at FCT Relief was beautiful! The amount of effort put into everything shows that it's not just a charity foundation but a place filled with love for every child. FCT Relief centre is more than a safe haven for the children; it equips them for their future through every workshop taught and time spent getting to know every child and their dreams. It was amazing to see what’s been achieved – these children are being given a real chance at a better future.

Her husband, David, wrote to us saying that Drusilla was very impressed and couldn’t stop talking about it.

Life-changing Workshops

No one can change the whole world, but the whole world of individual people can be changed – that is our vision: a ‘a heart for people.’ Our life-changing workshops bear witness to this. Jimmy (on the left in the photo above) was originally a skinny, shy child who had missed out on a lot of his school education. The transformation he has undergone since joining FCTrelief borders on a miracle. Prince and Blessing (on the right in the photo) are further examples that our work is worthwhile.

We make a positive difference to people’s lives – one child at a time. You too can make a difference – support our work!
