The FCTrelief team is delighted to be able to give new students a golden opportunity for an apprenticeship again this year. Everyone is motivated - and very grateful for this opportunity to study. A good education makes a better future possible. Gordon Merk reports.

Dorothy, Idah and Abigail are motivated!
«Makeni» School of Nursing
Esnart and Priscilla have passed their final exams and are waiting for their graduation ceremony. After three years of training in the care sector, they are now looking forward to the new challenge of putting their knowledge and experience into practice. Zambia needs more medical staff, the needs are great. Gertrude and Mary have completed their first year well and have warmly welcomed the new recruits, Dorothy, Idah and Goodson, who have just started. They are all motivated to take on this challenge and build a better future for themselves: Future through education! The new students are very excited to start their training. They have settled in well and have already overcome their first challenges. This is also part of life. Goodson is always positive, always in good spirits and does his best as ‘Mr Happy’!
Mary says that she found it difficult to imagine her life and her long-term future, that she only wanted to pass ‘Grade 12’ at first. She comes from a difficult background, but is proving herself to our complete satisfaction. She is grateful to FCTrelief for supporting her and giving her this opportunity. She hopes for a good future. She wants to look after people in the care sector. Gertrude says that such an education is the dream of all girls, especially in Zambia. Due to her poor circumstances, she never saw herself attending college, but she was always committed and diligent at school. She never gave up on her dream. The news that she was allowed to study delighted her. Her experience at the Makeni School of Nursing is ‘wonderful and fantastic’, the environment is conducive to learning and the teachers are very good.

Abigail at Fairview College
Abigail is training to become a ‘Front Desk’ or ‘Front Office Operations’, i.e. a receptionist. With her wonderful smile, her warm nature and her intelligence, she is made for it. This two-year training programme will open up many opportunities for her in various areas, such as hospitals, schools, the business world and hotels. For her, this training is ‘my next step in life’, she says. She will do her best.
Her heart beats for supporting young women, serving her country and helping the poor, especially children. Abigail is a kind and wonderful young woman and already during the initial registration period in July, she made pleasant acquaintances in her class. She is very grateful to FCTrelief for the opportunity to study.

Edward, Violet and Mable
Edward started a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the renowned University of Zambia. His clothes and phone were stolen shortly after his arrival, but he has already recovered well from this difficult situation. His studies are not easy, as Jonathan, who is studying the same subject in Kabwe, has also told him. Edward is motivated to complete his studies successfully.
We have already reported on Violet and Mable at Cavendish University. It was extremely challenging for them at the beginning, as life in Lusaka is very different to life in Linda. There was also a lot to learn and do. They often felt a little overwhelmed, but they coped well. We are proud of them. Challenges are also part of life and learning. Jonathan was able to help them well at the beginning of their studies. We value the internal network of mutual support between our students. Violet and Mable were also very inspired by Misheck's success story, role model and career. This motivates them to do well and build a future for themselves.

Danny and Eugene reflect on our Students
Danny supports and accompanies our students. This is one of his main tasks at FCTrelief. He is delighted that young people get the chance to do an apprenticeship. He knows what circumstances many of the students come from and is all the more pleased to see what happens to their lives. Eugene feels the same way. He has known them all for a long time. He remembers Goodson, for example. He came to FCTrelief from a poor background. Initially, he had to manage his life without support. Eugene motivates our students that something good can come of them, no matter where they come from or how difficult their circumstances are, and that they too can make a positive change for society.
The students are motivated and so are we. Every investment in supporting young people is worthwhile. You can help too!
